Traffic Festival is a festival of visual arts, performance, music, and educational workshops focusing on new generations' contemporary artistic research. It is dedicated to political ecology and the redefinition of rural and interior areas and considers rural areas as collective intelligences capable of responding to economic, ecological and social transformations.
By reflecting on themes such as ecology, contemporary art and rurality, the 2023 edition, titled, The Fifth Rotation of the Earth, aims to sensitize participants and the community toward a reflection on ecological heritage, understood as a common wealth to be safeguarded. Following the thematic and scholarly direction of past years that has seen alternating reflections around water scarcity and rurality as a system of connections for political communities, we continue to operate in seemingly peripheral areas of the Marche hinterland, potentially capable of generating new territorial imaginaries and narratives. We enhance the historical and natural territorial capital of the municipalities of the Marches, considering it one of the fundamental values capable of generating territorial synergies, sustainable tourism and local development.
To this end, it promotes culture and contemporary art, creating relationships between artists of national and international level and local communities, through residencies, activations of unused places, institutional collaborations, revaluation of the intangible historical heritage, cooperation with local economic and entrepreneurial realities and raising awareness towards the naturalistic heritage of the territory. The festival then aims to reflect, together with invited guests from Italy and abroad, on the inseparable relationship between human beings and the earth, understood both as soil and as a living planet.
