Club GAMeC Prize 2024
June 2024
Palazzo della Misericordia, Bergamo
The GAMeC Prize 2024 Club, established in 2016, continues its mission to support young art by intercepting trends in language and technique. The winning work is acquired by the GAMeC Club and will become part of the GAMeC - Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo Collection.
Matteo Binci conceived the exhibition Embracing the Languages Given to Me with works by Bekhbaatar Enkhtur, Cecilia Granara, Francesco Snote and Shafei Xia.
Embracing the languages given to me brings together practices of translating collective narratives and personal micro-stories and dynamics of cultural hybridization.
The works of Bekhbaatar Enkhtur, Cecilia Granara, Francesco Snote, and Shafei Xia situate themselves in fictional zones of linguistic hybridization and friction, generating new geographies and transcending visual and identity monolingualism. They nurture a multi-linguism that generates habitable interstices and untranslatable subjectivities in order to interrupt processes of trivialization of the present in favor of narrative strategies suited to the political and cultural complexity of the real. Employing traditional techniques and materials such as painting and sculpture, metals, paper, and ceramics, the invited artists generate symbolic images and self-fiction, giving rise to in-actual temporalities in order to negotiate the asynchrony between individual time and the collective historical period.
The expert jury who evaluated the exhibited works and decreed the winning artwork is composed of:
Lorenzo Giusti - Director GAMeC (President of the jury)
Luigi Giordano - Founder with his wife Laura of SPA Spazio Per Arte
Caterina Avataneo - Curator of the VII edition of the prize
Pippo Traversi - GAMeC Club Advisor.
