Ecologia (A)Sociale
20-21.5.2023
La Biennale di Venezia - Carpenedo Bissuola Library and Albanese Park
The Biennale Sessions special project of the Venice Biennale - dedicated to universities, academies and higher education institutions - is participating for the first time in the Spazio Aperto 2023 project. For this occasion, the Venice Biennale Foundation has commissioned Escuela Moderna Ateneo Libertario, Fuoriposto Mestre and Marche Arte Viva to present the project Ecologia (A)sociale.
The project Ecologia (A)Sociale is aimed at expanding the presence of Venice Biennale in the city of Mestre and includes a series of happenings, performance, installations and free initiatives open to the citizenship ans students. The project is articulated by starting with the idea of 5 thematic islands that connect with each other, creating an archipelago of people who collectively reflect on the ideas of performativity and construction of public space as a place for the development of a plural political discourse based on libertarian pedagogy practices. Each island brings to life an expanded workshop practice of social sculpture and social ecology through a collective choreography consisting of time and site-specific interventions.

Video review focused on the relationship between architecture, the political body, public space and ecological policies. The historic centers of many European cities are being squeezed by massive gentrification and touristic processes that displace residents, while the suburbs continue to accommodate the most disadvantaged classes with increasing difficulty. Social and economic barriers are generated that perimeter and subdivide cities, while also creating ecological imbalances due to excessive resource extractivism. The videos, made with different technical instruments and media, explore the possibilities of the filmic device and the abandonment of certain media no longer deemed efficient by the digital industry.
